Hi again, I didn't know about the Compass coffee house, I'll check that out. Thanks for the info, I knew you knew more about GP than I. I am with Pastor Paul and Jan Juss, small world. And, finally, I am a sound tech, I learned in Church, first in Peace River and now in Grande Prairie. I do have training in electronics previously though. Thanks and Blessings.

Hi Claudette, I listened to your songs. I'm not a song writer but I know you definately have an awesome voice. I'm glad to hear that you lived in Grande Prairie, you probably know more than I do, I have only been here for about a year and a half. I attend Victory Church on the Rock, we are in our own building now ( the Alliance built a new building and sold us their old building). If you ever come to G. P. and need a sound tech I would be happy to. Have a great day.

I live in Kelowna, which is crazy to me, since I grew up on the prairies. I still wake up and go, "Whoa... mountains." :)

You're welcome. It sounds like you understood what I was getting at. The studio is definitely not a place for practice. However, often impulsive creativity form part of the final product.

The best way to determine your style - is to write. Write, write, write. Listen to a range of artists in your car. Sing along and even try writing similar songs. After a while you will learn what your strength and limitations are. Also, play your own songs to an audience. Even if it is an audience of one person. Ask them to be honest with you. Often times, your listeners are the ones who are able to identify your style. (So there is no real need to focus on style in the beginning).

You may want to consider becoming involved in your churches youth or young adult ministry. Become part of their existing worship program and take every opportunity to play and sing. This provides a solid platform for you to launch yourself as Christian artist.

There are a number of important things you should think about when it comes to recording. First and foremost, you need to be very confident in the type of music you want to record. Also, who else will be recording with you? Studio work is not for everyone. There should be a high level of musicianship, skill and commitment for each musician who dares enter the studio.

You will have to decide how many song you want to record. You should also make consideration for the amount of money you are willing to invest. (Professional recordings can be very expensive). You should have a budget in place and a plan to recover the costs of recording once you are finished.

Finally, do your research. Don't walk into the first studio you see. There are many talented engineers in the market. As in every area of ministry, be sure that the people you have working for you understand and support your vision.

At the end of the day, making a quality recording is achievable by almost anyone with today's advanced technology. But always remember to aim for excellence. One of the first times I recorded, I intended on laying down 12 songs. I left the studio with only 4 completed tracks. Why? Because I would rather release 4 good sounding songs than 12 mediocre ones.

I hope this info helps you. If I failed to answer your question totally, please let me know and I will try help you along the way. God Bless!
